Overview and History
1. Overview The department of Basic Korean Medicine is dedicated to creatively inherit and develop our traditional medicine. Based on trust of the people and growing interest of developed countries on KM, efforts to advance KM into a global medicine such as strengthening of academic competence and promoting international academic communication are undertaken. Also, with establishment of the Institute of East-West Medicine at the Kyung Hee Medical Center, the academic system of East Asian Medicine has been modernized, building its way towards successfully becoming the third medicine. These efforts are manifested as objectification of diagnosis, essence extraction or refinement of herbal medicinals, development of acupuncture equipment and treatment instruments, successful non-drug anesthesia by acupuncture, hosting the International Acupuncture & Moxibustion Conference and the Academic Symposium of East-West Medicine, opening new pathways for the new medicine of the 21st century.
